i've nv ever expected myself to be hospitalized.. but i finally made my way to ward 45 of sgh on 1 March 2010.. maybe it's a way to celebrate the end of the lunar new yr with a big bang!
21 Feb 10 - came down with a high fever of 39 deg C.. persistent high fever for 5 days.. went to the GP at least 3 times..
26 Feb 10 - fever subsided..returned to work.. with v bad cough..
27 Feb 10 - breathlessness began..
28 Feb 10 - went to see GP in the morning.. hands started to tremble..
- 9pm plus, went back to see GP and GP wrote a note and instructed, yes instructed, to go A&E immediately.. i can't even wait till the nxt day..
actually i have the last GP to thank.. even tho i thot he's a lil ya-ya.. but i really am v thankful for his timely diagnosis.. w/o the x-ray, he was alr able to tell which part of my lungs was infected..
28 Feb 10, 11pm - decided to go SGH A&E.. the whole process.. registration + consultation = excruciating pain! it was really painful! i tot if my lungs were to burst from the infection.. i'd definitely die there! no kidding!
can't understand how A&E can ever lack that efficiency or at least to cut down the amt of paperwork to be done..
01 Mar 10, 12 midnight - poked by doctors several times..
doctor at A&E - did X-ray, blood spurted out from where the needle was.. wasted my blood juz like that..
- finally was given the ward
01 Mar 10, 2am - freakin hell.. waited for 2 hrs juz to wait for someone to wheelchair me to my ward..
- reached room, nurses were v prompt to attend to me
- young lady doc came.. to draw blood again.. successful on 3rd attempt.. all 3 attempts made on the back of my palms..
01 Mar 10 - woke up damn early cox hospital breakfast time's at 8am.. met my principal doc, Dr Constance.. super nice doc.. and i'm totally confident that i'll get better under her care..
- slowly gotten used to hospital life.. haf to say it's the most disciplined way of life after a long time.. my life revolves juz ard ward 45..
the furthest i've ventured into? walkway connecting block 1 and block 4.. where i was stunned by a police officer on duty.. returned to my room after unsuccessful attempt to go beyond blk 4..
- 6am - inhalation of ventulin
8am - breakfast, Prime Time Morning
switch between HBO, CNN, chan 5 & 8..
12 noon - lunch
---TV again ----
3pm -- time for tea
restlessness sets in.. cox TV doesn't offer nice progs..
looking fwd to having visitors..
6pm - dinner
TV, talking, laughing --> getting breathless again
8pm - cup of Milo (this was nt served on the last nite under the instruction of the doc)
TV, HBO usually has got better movies this time..
11pm - inhalation of ventulin again..
12mn - sleepy.. lights off
03 Mar 10 - hopes of returning home dashed..
04 Mar 10 - doc finally approved to let me free!
- it feels weird to finally step out of the building.. i believe it's juz like how a bird is finally freed from its cage.. very unsure.. doubtful if this is the world i belong to..
- tho it sounds wrong.. but i kinda miss my ward room.. the nurses there and Doc Constance.. i'm juz too comfortable with that small space of mine back at the hospital..
so that's it.. that's my 1st hospitalization experience.. & i certainly hope it's the last.. even tho my stay was considerably.. comfortable and very re-assuring..
shall look fwd to see Doc Constance during my follow-up..
this is afterall.. my 1st hospitalization..
